Why Living Like Someone Else Is Holding You Back

In Week Two of The Me I Could Be, we confront the pressure many people feel to pretend and live up to expectations that don’t match who God created them to be. Using David’s refusal of Saul’s armor in 1 Samuel 17, this message challenges us to stop wearing someone else’s armor and trust how God uniquely made and equipped us. At the heart of the message is a question of identity and obedience: are we living to please people or working wholeheartedly for the Lord (Colossians 3:23)? Scripture reminds us that God created us intentionally, gifted us by His grace, and planned a purpose for our lives (Jeremiah 1; Romans 12:6–8). As we trust God’s timing and calling, seasons of heaviness can turn into seasons of joy (Zechariah 8:19).
